Shoe Size Conversion Calculator

Shoe Size Conversion Calculator

Convert between US, UK, EU, JP, CN, AU, MX, BR, and Mondopoint shoe sizes — for Men, Women, and Kids.

What the shoe size conversion calculator does

The shoe size conversion calculator converts a shoe size from one country’s system into the others. Choose the category (men, women or kids), the system your size is in, enter the size, and press Calculate. The tool returns the equivalent size in US, UK, EU, Japanese, Chinese, Australian, Mexican and Brazilian systems, plus the Mondopoint foot length in millimetres that underlies all of them.

How the conversion works

Every size is first converted to a foot length in millimetres (Mondopoint), then from that length into each target system. The scales differ in both their starting point and their step size:

SystemStep between sizesBasis
US and UK1/3 inch (8.47 mm), the tool uses 6.67 mm per size on the length scaleBarleycorn scale; US numbering starts one size higher than UK for men and about 1.5 higher for women
EU (Paris point)6.67 mm (2/3 cm)Last length in Paris points; roughly 1.5 × last length in cm
Japan and Mondopoint5 mm, sizes are the foot length in cm or mmDirect measurement
China5 mmFoot length in mm, expressed as (mm − 20) / 5 in newer labelling
AustraliaAs UKMen follow UK; women follow UK plus 2
Mexico, BrazilAs USOffset scales close to US sizing

The calculator uses linear approximations of these scales. Because manufacturers round differently and lasts vary, results should be treated as the nearest half size rather than an exact fit.

Measuring your foot

  1. Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall, in the evening when feet are largest.
  2. Mark the tip of the longest toe and measure from the wall in millimetres.
  3. Repeat for the other foot and use the longer one.
  4. Add 10 to 15 mm for toe room in everyday shoes, more for running shoes.

Enter the result as Mondopoint to get sizes in every system. The length calculator converts inches to millimetres if you measured in inches.

Width and fit

Length is only half the picture. US and UK sizing include width letters (B, D, E, EE); EU sizing rarely does. A foot that is wide for its length often fits better in a half size up. Running shoes are usually bought half a size larger than dress shoes, and boots with thick socks a full size larger.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing the wrong category. US women’s sizes run about 1.5 higher than men’s for the same foot, so a men’s 9 and a women’s 10.5 are the same length.
  • Assuming UK = US. UK sizes are one lower than US men’s and about two lower than US women’s.
  • Trusting one brand’s chart for another. Try shoes on when you can, or check the brand’s own chart in millimetres.
  • Ignoring kids’ scales. Children’s sizes restart the count and are not comparable to adult numbers.

Frequently asked questions

What is Mondopoint?

The ISO system that labels shoes by foot length in millimetres, sometimes with width. Ski boots and military footwear use it, and it is the basis of the calculator’s conversions.

Why do I get a half size in one system and a whole size in another?

The scales have different step sizes and offsets, so a whole size in EU often lands between sizes in US or UK. Round to the nearest available size.

How accurate is the EU conversion?

Within about half a size for most brands. Italian and French brands often run small; German brands run true or large.

Are Japanese and Chinese sizes the same?

Both are based on foot length in millimetres, but Chinese labels may use a transformed number. The calculator handles both.

How much should I add for growing children?

About 12 mm beyond the current foot length, and re-measure every two to three months under age six.
